HENRY - Donald Vogelsang Clark, 86, of Henry died at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry.

Donald was born June 30, 1923, in Marshall County, Henry, Ill., to Ivan and Alta Louise (Vogelsang) Clark. He married Almira Ludwig on June 15, 1958, in Henry, Ill. She survives in Henry.

Also surviving are one son, Donald Ludwig Clark of Salt Lake City, Utah; and one daughter, Catherine Reed Clark of Bartlett, Ill.

His parents; one brother, Thomas Clark; a sister-in-law, Mary Clark Murphy; and a niece, Roberta Clark, preceded him in death.

Donald had served his country in the United States Army Air Forces during WWII, in the European Theater in the 80th Troop Carrier Squad. He had served from February 1943 to September of 1945.

He was a carpenter and was employed at Hardware Hank in Henry.

Donald was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Henry.

Don was born at 522 Carroll St., Henry. He lived most of his life in Henry, but he also lived with his family in Bement, Ill., from first to sixth grade. Don graduated from Henry grade and high schools and attended Bradley University for one year after World War II.

He was an avid duck hunter and decoy collector, and a good friend of Charlie and Edna Perdew. Don was a hunting guide at Swan Lake Duck Club for over 50 years, and also the caretaker at the Horseshoe Duck Club for several decades. He co-founded the Henry Decoy Show, which he ran for over 40 years, and which continues by Bruce & Sue Bauter.

He was a member of the Midwest Decoy Collectors Association and on the Waterfowl Collection Committee at Lakeview Museum in Peoria.

Don was dedicated to the city of Henry. He served as an alderman in the 1960s involved with construction of the water tower and library and was also on the library board. He was an American Legion Member and was the chairman of the Henry Democratic committee. Don was a charter member and president of the Charles Perdew Museum Association.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Downtown Chapel. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the memorial home. Private family inurnment will be in Henry Cemetery in Henry.

Memorials may be made to the Charles Perdew Museum or to the Henry Food Pantry.
